18 March - Brisbane

Picked up by Dorothy and Andrew, and then retired to the luxury of chez-Rogers where I quickly recovered from my jet lag.

Dorothy introduces me to the delights of the Big Pineapple, as well as body surfing at Bribie Island, "Come on in" she says - "It's perfectly safe"....

...As she lures me into a swarm of deadly Portuguese Men-of-War, know affectionately as bluebottles to the locals. Definitely less fun than you'd imagine.
Above: Nice pineapple, but check your coke straw for poisonous spiders before you suck....

Right: Dorothy explains how the Glasshouse Mountains were formed by mounds of dead flies that gathered over thousands of years...

An expert  describes the pain of a bluebottle sting as "very intense and can last up to 12 hours". He urges bathers to stay well away from the bluebottles. At least I get one up on Bill Bryson
